Hōonkō, Kieshiki Ceremony & Cake to Celebrate
JANUARY 19, 2020, 11 a.m.

Hōonkō  is a holiday that observes the memorial of the founder of our denomination of Shin Buddhism, Shinran Shonin. On this occasion we take a moment to express our gratitude towards Shinran Shonin and recognize the truth of interdependence which allowed us to receive his teachings of the Nembutsu. A Kieshiki affirmation ceremony will take place during the  Hōonkō  service and the participants who are committed to following the Nembutsu teachings will receive their Dharma names (Homyo) from the Bishop of the Buddhist Churches of America, Rev. Umezu. Cake and coffee will be served after the service in celebration.
