Meditation at Ekoji

Please join us Thursday at 8 p.m. for our weekly meditation

Our Thursday meditation practice begins at 8 p.m., in the hondo (temple) building. We start the evening with a short sutra (Buddhist scripture) chant and then have two 20 minute sitting meditation sessions, both of which are non-guided and silent.

Most participants sit in chairs, but any comfortable position is fine. In between the sitting meditation sessions, we have a 5 to 10 minute walking meditation session, during which we perform the ritual of Oshoko (burning of incense), which reminds us of impermanence.

After the completion of the second sitting meditation session, we end with another sutra chant. Shortly after the formal meditation concludes, we have a voluntary, informal social gathering with tea and various snacks, which generally lasts about 30 minutes.

Newcomers are always welcome!
