Spring Seminar Features Duke Professor of Religion, May 19

Dr. Richard C. Jaffe, Creed C. Black Associate Professor of Religion at Duke University, will be the featured speaker for Ekoji Buddhist Temple’s Spring Seminar.

Join us on May 19, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. when Dr. Jaffe will discuss Japanese Buddhism and D.T. Suzuki.

Dr. Jaffe’s research is focused on the development of Japanese Buddhism from the sixteenth century to the present. Current projects include a study of travel and encounters between Japanese and other Buddhists during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and, as general editor, overseeing the publication of five volumes of the writings of D. T. Suzuki. Research specialties include Buddhism and East Asian Religions, including Japanese Buddhism, and Buddhism and Modernity. Dr. Jaffe received his PhD from Yale University in 1995. He is currently chairman of the Religion Department.

Lunch will be provided for a $5 donation. This event is open to the public.

Mother’s Day Brunch at Ekoji: Ekoji will be honoring all mothers with their annual Mother’s Day Brunch hosted by the Ekoji Sangha fathers, sons and daughters. The monthly hondo clean up will be held on April 8 at 9 a.m. Please consider volunteering for the monthly clean up.

Ekoji will be holding the annual Hanamatsuri Joint Service on April 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.

Rev. Kaz Nakata will be officiating and the service leader will be Rose Baham.

Directly following the service, there will be a Sangha Pot Luck Luncheon. Please feel free to bring your favorite dish to share with other Sangha members.

The point of contact is Ms. Sam Silva. If you can volunteer to help with the luncheon committee or if you have any questions, she may be contacted at samsilva@verizon.net .

Please bring your dishes to the Sangha Hall no later than 10:30 a.m.
